Jill played at the 2007 Downtown
Hoedown. You can see her in the intimate setting of our Sundquist
pavilion. Jill, with her soulful voice, has won enough Detroit
Music Awards for a lifetime. She continues to be a Michigan
favorite at her live performances.
Her genre-jumping sound doesn't
fit easily into any one format and keeps her free to write and sing what
she wants, "I am a folk artist and I'm proud of that."
Jill can do more than just a good folk song. She can sing a sweet ballad
and rock the place out too.
Billy Brandt (electric guitar) has
alt-country-Americana-rock roots that go deep. He's been a mainstay of
exceptional local music. He also is a member of local band
Grievous Angel.
Ron Pangborn (drums) is a successful
composer and producer for TV's Backstage Pass and one of the best
drummers on the Detroit scene. He's graced many national tours
with his tasteful presence.
Nolan Mendenhall (bass guitar) has played
with just about every Motown and R'n'B great, won Producer of the Year
Awards (Detroit Music Awards) and zigzagged from folk to reggae to jazz
and back.
Dale Grisa (keyboards) is one of those hot players
everyone wants to work with! He has performed with the big names in
Detroit and delivers every night..

Hardline Drive
Progressive Bluegrass band from Michigan that composes and performs
original material. Each member has years of experience in
traditional and newer forms of bluegrass music with a focused attention
on producing original material.
Significant influences come from bands like Alison Krauss and Union
Station, Lonesome River Band, Blue Highway, Mountain Heart and Cadillac
Sky. The band also draws from various other styles of music, creating
the sound that defines them.
Hardline Drive places a great deal of emphasis on solid timing and
tight harmonies, which is the hallmark of the bluegrass the group
believes people want to hear.
Toni Erskine (fiddle, vocals) graces Hardline Drive with her
powerful lead vocals that resonate a bluesy feel that is second to none.
Greg Fuson (guitar) a phenomenal rhythm guitar player and
helps drive the band with an incredible amount of energy and timing.
He also plays a mean dobro on occasion.
Mollie Royce (upright bass) has an incredible sense of timing
and drive. Her mother and father, both bluegrass musicians, had a
significant influence on her musical development.
Danielle Smith (mandolin, vocals) has a strong and relentless
chop on the mandolin lending a great deal of forward motion to the band.
Her lead and harmony vocals add a bluesy, if not jazzy, feel to whatever
she sings.
David Russell (banjo, vocals) provides solid banjo timing and
snap for the band, and also sings baritone vocals behind Toni and
Danielle. David has more than 30 years of experience in bluegrass
music.

Jim Gill Family Concert
Jim bangs out energetic rhythms on his banjo while
everyone sings, claps, jumps, dances and even sneezes along. The concert
is filled with songs from Jim’s award-winning recordings for young
children.
Although he is best known for his silly recordings and
books for young children, Jim Gill is, by training, a child development
specialist with 20 years of experience working with young children and
families.
According to Jim, “During the best concerts, the
children are watching and playing along with the adults in the audience
as much as they are watching me....the children are most likely to
remember the joy of their family play.”
What makes the concert so memorable is the interaction
the children and adults experience together. It is truly a concert
of play. . . simple in concept and rich in spirit. Jim Gill is the
enthusiastic leader.
Presented in cooperation with the Farmington
Community Library.

Rockabilly Strangers
The band plays the great hits of rockabilly and songs by newer groups
inspired by the rockabilly legends. You'll rock to the sounds of
this local band comprised of veteran players.
What's Rockabilly? Think of '50s Rock & Roll with a country
twist to it, then and add a dose of swing &
bluegrass flavoring on top. It's an unmistakable sound that
everyone likes.
Gene Vincent & Carl Perkins were both pioneers of rockabilly.
Johnny Cash & Elvis Presley both started out playing in the
rockabilly genre.

The BackBeats
Using authentic instruments, clothing, and hairstyles, The BackBeats
transport their audiences on a Magical Mystery Tour of yesteryear, when
the whole world knew the four names of John, Paul, George and Ringo.
No one can deny the importance of recreating the music with
note-for-note accuracy, it's the presentation of the material - the
ability to keep the audiences dancing, clapping, and laughing - that has
always made this band stand out among the scores of tribute bands around
the world.

in the high-energy neo-Klezmer, hypnotic laments - an exciting and
beautiful blend of cultures and eras.
The band is a melting-pot of five multi-instrumentalists and

The Lash
"By using the combinations of traditional Irish folk music, the
Irish-rock influence of The Pogues and the recognizable melodies found
in pop rock, The Lash is becoming one of the truest forms of alternative
music around.” Lansing State Journal

Mayhem”, The Lash combines the fiddle, mandolin, banjo and even pedal

Two Man Gentlemen Band
"The Two Man Gentlemen Band was AWESOME.
These guys rule in a totally old-timey, banjo and stand-up bass way.
They've got charisma, energy and kazoos, and they definitely have fun
up there, with compositions that are a little bit dorky and a little
bit dirty. Banjo player Andy Bean works the crowd, addressing members
of the audience and his own band with the honorific
"friend," and employing other affectations of a
Depression-era huckster. Their lyrics are twee and hilarious, and each
song clips along at approximately twelve-million bpms. The band should
be atop every geek's play list. They played, not one, but two songs
related to mathematics…To cap off this complete and joyful
celebration of dorkitude, we had a brief discussion on William Howard
Taft — the last president to have facial hair in office — followed
by a song."
